Twilight follows Bella Swan as she moves in with her father, Charlie, to Forks. As Bella does her best to adapt to a new place, lifestyle, and school, she is instantly intrigued by the mysterious Edward Cullen, who seems to not like her. The debate has become more nuanced over time, examined as more than a vampire vs werewolf debate, but instead, whether it's better to find new love with someone a person does not know, or fall for one's best friend. New Moon makes it seem like both options could happen for Bella, though she doesn't really see a romantic future with Jacob when she realizes Edward is still in the picture.

Eclipse is widely regarded as the best book in the Twilight series, and the movie adaptation did a good job of bringing the action to life. When Victoria and her army of newborn vampires threaten to kill Bella, the Cullens and the werewolves make a temporary alliance to keep Bella safe – and as expected, this only makes the Edward/Jacob rivalry even worse, with Bella trying to maintain peace on both sides.

The most controversial part of this movie actually happened behind the scenes. Rachelle Lefevre was originally cast as Victoria and appeared as the vampire in small scenes in the earlier movies. When it came time to film Eclipse, she was already working on another project, though she was committed to making both work. The Eclipse producers decided not to work around her schedule and hired Bryce Dallas Howard to play Victoria instead. Both actors approach the role of Victoria differently, and both are great in the part, but fans were not happy to hear about recasting at the time.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 saw the long-awaited wedding of Bella and Edward, as that was the only way Bella could become a vampire. However, Bella got pregnant on her honeymoon, but a human carrying a human/vampire child can be deadly.

This fourth movie in the franchise marked another controversial step by the studio as the decision was made to break it into two films. many young-adult-oriented franchises have employed a similar tactic to get as much story onto the screen as possible - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, for example. The source material for the movie is a single novel, but with so many loose ends to tie up and so much action, the book becomes two movies in all of those major franchises.
